GAME DESIGN PROJECTS
Welcome to my Game Design projects. You will see all of my projects and games I have created in college and outside of college.
VVVVVV GAME LEVELS
Intro to Game Design - Fall 2021
VVVVVV is a video game on Steam where you can design your own levels or play as a space crew mate who has to save his crewmates by going through puzzle-platform levels, which get harder as you play. The three images that are showing are my VVVVVV levels I created. The last image is the level editor. This was a project I did in my Intro To Game Design Course. VVVVVV is a computer game we had to download and inside the game there is a level editor where we get to design our own levels or you can play the story mode of the game. We had to create three levels, one that is easy, one that is medium easy, and one that is hard by using the tools in the level editor. After that we share our levels with the class where we get to play each other's levels. This was the very first experience of game design ever for me. This gave me the idea of what it looks like designing a game within a game.

Jewels In Space Game
3D Digital and Game Design - Fall 2021
I made this game in a class called 3D Digital and Game Design. We used two different software packages to create our games, called Maya and Unity. In Maya, we created our characters, props, etc., anything that we wanted to include in our game. In Unity, we created our environment for our game and imported our creations from Maya into Unity. I came up with this game on my own. However, I liked the space theme I thought about, so I thought, why not make a space game where there are aliens guarding these special jewels and the crewmate has to collect them without getting caught. This class gave me experience of what it takes to create a video game. Also, this is my very first game I have ever created, and I'm proud of what I made. I can't wait to take the knowledge from this class and apply it to my future career. I will also add more to this game to expand it with the new skills I learned in game design.
Be sure to check out the video file of my game!

My 2D Animation Creations
2D Animation and Graphics - Spring 2022
For my character animation, we first created a storyboard, a collection of images used to plan out a story. It is a tool to help you visualize the scenes in sequential order. The storyboard stage is the time to test out your ideas before spending hours on the animation stage. I created one scene from my storyboard where my character is walking to his birdhouse and becomes happy and jumps up and down, saying that the birds have a home to live in.
The bouncing ball animation was to practice our new skills by creating a classic animation challenge, the bouncing ball. Both of these animations were created using keyframes (the gray little boxes with the black dots) that you can see in the timeline in the video. Creating these animations helps me translate what the player would like to do in the world, as well as supports the story in 2D, 3D animations and video games. |

My Roll - A - Ball Game
Advance Game Design - Spring 2022
This is the second video game I created, called Roll-A-Ball Game, in my Advance Game Design class. We used a piece of software called Unity to create our game using the tools, mechanics, materials, and 3D objects within Unity. Also, in this class we learn about scripting, which is making a certain object or character do something due to the script being attached to them. I really enjoyed taking this class and I'm really glad that I learned about scripting to make the game objects come to life because that's part of what I want to do in my career.

THE TAKEOVER GAME
Personal Project - Summer 2022
This is a design and build game I did in Unity called "THE TAKEOVER". I designed this game over the summer. The game build started out by doing a tutorial within Unity and turning it around by using my ideas and various assets in Unity's asset store to build the game. The assets I used for this game are called Sci-Fi Styled Modular Pack. I thought these assets would be perfect for my game :) I'm in college studying game design. I'm still learning a lot about how games are made, and so far I love making games within Unity. I learned a lot about working in Unity, but I'm still learning. I have other games I made for college courses. However, I'm going to go back and work on them and add things to them. But for this game, I wanted to make a whole new game that I wanted to take my time with and use the knowledge I learned from college courses and outside of the courses to see my knowledge and ideas come to life.

FORTNITE MOBILE APP LAYOUT
Digital Tech Design Portfolio - Fall 2022
For this project, I chose to design a game layout in Adobe XD. I designed a mobile game layout for one of my favorite games, Fortnite. For this project, I wanted to cover my UI/UX skills as well as more of my game design skills for my portfolio.
For the layout, I wanted to use one color scheme for the layout of this mobile app. Also, I made the buttons stand out by using effects and light black boxes around some of the text, as well as putting white arrows next to the clickable buttons so they can stand out for players to know they can click on them. Furthermore, I wanted to create the most important screens to help players understand what this mobile game is and how it works. If I really wanted this mobile app to be a legit app, there would be more screens as well, showing the overall picture. However, I just designed the most important screens that were important. I focus on the design and the UI/UX layout of this game since this is my first time designing a mobile game within Game Design and in Adobe XD. Overall, I enjoyed creating this layout and learning about the creation of mobile games. It was an interesting experience and I can’t wait to learn more in my own time.

Starting with the first screen, it's the home/login screen. This is the screen where the player will login, or if they are new to the game, they will click on “New to battle”. That will take them to the next screen where they will sign up to create an account. After clicking the “Sign up” button, they will go back to the login screen to login by pressing the “Let’s Battle!” button, which will take them to the third screen.
This is what the "Create Account" screen looks like.
The third screen is where players will pick a character they want to play with. At the top, it shows their profile picture based on the character they picked. They can also click on “outfits” to see the different outfits that character has. Next to the “outfit” button are the three dash lines where players can click on to access more options within the game. In the middle of the screen is a picture of the player character. Right below the picture shows what the character looks like as well as their name. Players can click on the name to access more characters to choose from. Then there's a price history to see how much the skin has cost over time. Lastly, players will see another option by pressing the white arrow to see if the character comes with a set. After a player has selected their character, they will press the “Next” button, which takes them to the fourth screen.
The fourth screen is the game's weapons. Players will choose a weapon to start out with. They can click on “weapons'' to pick a variety of weapon, such as rifles, shotguns, etc. Then you can choose the strength of the weapon such as “Legendary,” being the strongest weapon. Next, they can choose the kind of weapons in a certain category, such as rifles. They can choose a rifle called the MK-7 Assault Rifle. As players switch between weapons, they see the weapons' stats based on the strength of the weapon. Players will also see a button called “Personal Stats" where they can see their stats within the game as well as add their favorite weapons by clicking the “Add To Favorites" button to the list. Once they finish choosing their weapon, they will click “Play” where the game play screen will show (screen six).
The fifth screen is a challenge. This screen shows the challenges players can do. They click on a character to see the challenges they have to complete to unlock the character. Then they have weekly challenges where players only have a week to complete them.
On screen six, players will see left and right sticks. One is for movement and one is for the camera. Then there’s a map as well as their health and weapons.

THE HAUNTED JAUNT GAME
Digital Game Production - Spring 2023
This is a game I created in my Digital Game Production class where we follow a tutorial in Unity Learn to create a 3D game called John's Lemon Haunted Jaunt in Unity. This gave us the introduction to animation, rendering, lighting, and texture of 3D games assets in an environment. This was a fun learning experience and the Unity Learn tutorials gave a lot of information I can use for future games, which is great!

BREAKOUT GAME PROJECT - Fall 2023
For this project I created my first 2D game call Breakout, which is a real life game from back in the day. This project was base on a course on Udemy called Creating a Breakout Game Using Unity and C#. The course was very simple and understanding to learn. The progress of creating a 2D game is almost like creating a 3D game expect your only using 2D components, which was very interesting.

PLATFORM GAME PROJECT- Fall 2023
This is a platform game I created in Unreal Engine 5. This was my first time using this game engine as well as creating my first game. For this project I follow along with another course on Udemy called "Creating Your First Game in Unreal Engine 5". During this course I learned the basic of Unreal Engine 5 such as tools. Moreover I learned about blueprints, how to model within the engine, and how to add materials. I was a little intimated by this game engine since I never used Unreal Engine before but it didn't seem too bad. I know it will take practice but I'm glad I got some hands-on experience in using Unreal Engine since its a popular game engine that a lot of game developers uses.

FPS Map Level Design - Spring 2024
I have design levels for games before so this is not new to me but I did want to touch on my skills on level design. So I found a tutorial that was designing a FPS Level. I like FPS games and I made one before but I want to make more FPS games in the future. By following along with this tutorial help touch on my level design skills to make my levels look good within Unity. This is a low poly FPS map level in a desert area. With the assets they provide we use to create a little village. One of the most important thing I took for this tutorial is the Post Processing Effects. I learn about this in school but its good that I was able to get a refresher about it. With these Effects really help make your games look really good and little more immersive. I can see myself using the Post Processing Effects for future games.
Be sure to watch the video of the level! Link to tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDhgHfbAiMI&pp=ygUrY3JlYXRpbmcgdGhlIG1hcCBpbiB1bml0eSBmcHMgZ2FtZSBpbiB1bml0eQ%3D%3D |

FPS Game Demo - Spring 2024
This is a FPS map I created and design in Unity. This is a demo of my FPS game where either its going to multiplayer or a waves of enemies spawning that players have to kill without dying to see how long they can survive, so there still things I have to add. For this game, I used assets to create this level such as the buildings, walls, and guns. I created my own materials within Unity as well as using pro-builder for the stairs. For this level, I wanted to go for a desert theme look. By using processing effects to help the game look better. As you look at the level you can tell where players will start on their sides. As I place the buildings I made sure to include space for players to run and walk. I also made sure to include walls for cover when players are shooting. I even included a map like most FPS games have. For the player, it has simple mechanic's for a FPS should have. I used a few scripts for the gameplay and for the weapons the player has such as switching and reloading ammo, etc. Overall, I want this game to a fun FPS game that hopefully players will enjoy playing. Moreover, I'm really enjoying in the creation process of this game and being able to use my game skills and new to build this game.

Shoot The Targets Game - Spring 2024
This is a game I created in Unreal Engine 5 called Shoot The Targets. This is my first even real game I ever created in Unreal Engine. I really enjoyed the process of using Unreal and using Blueprints to create my game. Since I'm a beginner using Unreal Engine, I watched a tutorial to help guide me to where I need to start and I was able to expand my creativity. I can see myself using Unreal Engine more in the future where I know a lot of professionals game developers uses this engine.

Glow Runner Game - Spring 2024
I created a game in Unity call Glow Runner where you have jump over obstacles for how long you can. There's no time limit besides a score counter that will keep track of how many times you jump. If you hit an obstacle you have to start over. You can take turns with friends and family to see who will get a high score. For the design, I change the skybox to an outer space theme. I added a cube to be the player and a stretch out cube to be the where the player and obstacles will be. The obstacles are also cubes but a little stretch out. With all of these cubes I gave them a glow effect using color and emission. I use a canvas for the game title and number text. I added in a play button symbol that is clickable for player to click on to start the game. Then I use C# scripts to code the game and lastly I added in background retro game music. Overall, I really like how this game is turning out so far. There still some features I want to add like a main menu to game but so far it still look great.
Be sure to watch the gameplay video. |
